To become Muslim, one declares with sincere belief: 'Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah' (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah). This simple declaration, made with conviction, makes one a Muslim.
Taking shahada is just the beginning of a beautiful journey. New Muslims are encouraged to learn gradually, connect with a local Muslim community, and be patient with themselves. Allah's mercy encompasses all things.
"Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins'"
